I have one really, really important tip to share with you bloggers today.
Don’t publish as post without keywords. Using keywords in a blog is the most basic rule of thumb to ensure blog optimisation i.e. telling the search engine spiders what your post/article is all about.
If your post is relevant to your key words and key word phrases your search engine ranking will be better and that’s why we blog – to drive traffic!
For those of you who don’t know, keyword usage is of paramount importance in any on line marketing drive and you should research your key words before you start using them.
Firstly, think about what you are writing about and consider what keywords would be pertinent to your niche topic. Try to choose words that are related to each other. For me that would be social media, social media marketing, business blogging, online content management, writing etc etc.
When you write a post for your blog think about using a variety of keywords for each post and vary them. Write your article or post using your most important keywords in the title or main heading of the post. Make sure you use those keywords in the body of your post too especially in the first phrase or line of the post.
When you’re done, edit the permalink to your post so that it shows the most important keyword keeping it as short as possible.
Use keywords as anchor text throughout your body copy and highlight them and embed links to other posts you’ve written on the topic or in a similar vein to create backlinks in your blog.
Be careful not to use too many keywords and ensure that your content still reads well and has relevancy to the reader and never, ever list keywords. It’s an SEO no no!
Write naturally and read it through for relevancy against the title and sub titles before publishing.
Keyword SEO is a very big topic but suffice it to say that it’s no less pertinent to a blog than it is to a website and if you want to hold your own in your niche start ensuring your posts are SEO’d in the best possible manner and that your backlinks are working for you.

Dear Jane,
Your posts are so relevant and timely! My point to work on improving is my use of keywords in the title.
Also, even though I make the article as interesting as possible I always try to include a great quote or some humor too.
Alan
Thanks Alan
Glad to hear you’re still reading me! Good point about the humour! I forget sometimes.
Jane
there is some good information in this article, thanks for posting! One of the main SEO ‘thumbs up’ is good quality RELEVANT backlinks your site has. Quality is better then quantity. Look forward to your next post.
Thanks for the comment Kevin. It’s good to know I’m adding value and empowering people on this blog in some way! I agree about the quality and try to tell my clients to limit their backlinks in each article to about two.
